The Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium and XZ3 join the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 on Android 10
Late last year, Sony announced that it would be upgrading the Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium and XZ3 to Android 10 in "early 2020". While the company did not elaborate any further, few people probably expected the OS upgrade to arrive this quickly. If you own any of the above, then a notification of an OTA update should arrive within the next few days. Alternatively, tools like XperiFirm or Xperia Companion will contain download links for your handset's latest firmware.
The build number to look out for is 52.1.A.0.532, which is a 730 MB download irrespective of whether you have an XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium or XZ3. The new build brings the four devices all the standard features of Android 10, including a system-wide dark mode. Please note that you cannot downgrade your device to Android 9.0 Pie builds after installing 52.1.A.0.532, for some reason.
Sony has now upgraded six smartphones to Android 10, with the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 receiving the OS last month. Android 10 should start hitting the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus before the end of this quarter too. Currently, Sony has stated that it will only bring eight devices onto Android 10, with the XZ1 series missing the cut after just one OS upgrade.
