Sony has delayed the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro in India due to the telecom spectrum for Wi-Fi 7 currently not allocated in the country. The game console uses the 6GHz spectrum band for its IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) certified network radios.
In an official statement shared with High Chaos Run, Sony confirmed the "PS5 Pro will not be available in some countries (which presently includes India) where 6GHz wireless band used in IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) has not yet been allowed."
According to a report from Business Standard, India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has postponed its decision on the allocation of the band and has until 2027 to take a final call.
Sources that spoke to the Financial Express say India will reserve the upper portion of the band (6425-7125 MHz) for telecom operators to use for 5G and 6G services. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) uses the network for satellite communications and it has flagged potential interference issues if the band is allocated for telecom.
