The Samsung Galaxy A12 shows up in renders looking like the Galaxy A42
The A11 launched as a new near-lowest-end Samsung Galaxy-line smartphone in 2020. Now, a new tip hints at a second generation for this triple rear-camera ~US$179 device. It might have up to 5 cameras instead, as well as looks borrowed from more premium siblings.
They include the Galaxy A42 5G, the first new Samsung phone to launch with a square rear camera. Now, a new set of images posted to SlashLeaks indicate that the "A12" has the same, as may the rumored 7000mAh-battery M12. They have apparently leaked from a case manufacturer, as the putative phone is depicted in a clear accessory.
Then again, should this really be the Galaxy A12, it may be a downgrade in terms of its screen. The A11 had a punch-hole selfie camera, whereas these new renders show a waterdrop notch. However, as the same display is also portrayed as nearly bezel-less, this may be less than accurate.
Finally, some text (SAM-A12 5G) superimposed on the case renders has led to speculation that the A12 might be 5G, thus bringing this feature to even more price tiers in 2021. However, it may be a mis-print of the phone's probable model number, and should actually read SM-A125G. Then again, there is no further direct evidence that this device even exists at this point.
