Redmi has just announced a launch date for a phone called the Note 9S in Malaysia. Now, a new entry on the Geekbench 5 website for this device returns the same specs as the Note 9 Pro. This suggests the 2 products are one and the same.

Xiaomi Malaysia's recent Facebook promotion may have potential customers in this country wondering what the Redmi Note 9S will offer on its March 23, 2020 launch. It may be a new variant of this new smartphone series - or, more likely, a re-named Pro or Pro Max. A new listing on Geekbench 5 appears to assert the former.

This set of results is indeed for a "Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S", although scrolling past its title reveals a carbon-copy of similar leaks pertaining to this line's Pro variant. To this end, it has 6GB of RAM, runs Android 10 and has a processor clocked at 1.8GHz. Its identifiers match those previously associated with the Snapdragon 720G.

This new listing even has the same code-name (curtana) as that found in Geekbench 5 results for the Note 9 Pro. Therefore, it is possible that this leak has been faked. However, there is also a good chance that Malaysia's impending new phone will turn out to be the same as the one launched in India not long ago.
