NVIDIA may be on the verge of releasing its new Ampere architecture. However, the latest Steam hardware survey reveals that many gamers have yet to move to the company's Turing architecture. Instead, Pascal generation cards remain dominant, as does a preference for gaming at 1080p.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 is getting long in the tooth now by modern standards, with almost four years having passed since the release of the Pascal card. Nonetheless, the most-recent Steam Hardware & Software Survey reveals that the GTX 1060 remains the most popular graphics card. This is followed by the GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050, with three of which combining to account for 24.38% of the GPUs used on Steam.

Unsurprisingly, 64.81% of respondents continue to game at 1080p, while only 6.23% have moved to 1440p. Over 10% of gamers still play at 768p though, while only 2.12% play at 2160p or 4K.

NVIDIA continues to be GPU manufacturer of choice too, with 73.53% choosing the company over AMD or Intel. These results apply across Linux, Windows and Mac, for reference. Filtering to just Widnows gamers results in higher percentages for the GTX 1060 and 1080p.
