Asus has announced the successor to the Zephyrus GX501 with the Zephyrus S GX502. The GX502 now comes with the 9th gen Core i7-9750H CPU and RTX 2060/2070 CPU options with NVIDIA Optimus support. The GX502 also features a PANTONE-validated 240 Hz FHD display, improved connectivity and audio, and is also lighter than the GX501.

The Asus Zephyrus S GX502 offers a significant upgrade over the 2017 Zephyrus S GX501. The Zephyrus S GX502 now comes with a 9th gen Intel Core i7-9750H CPU, RTX 2060 or RTX 2070 GPU options with Optimus support, and up to 32 GB of DDR4-2666 memory. The GX501 model sported a 120 Hz G-Sync panel but this time, Asus has equipped the GX502 with a 240 Hz PANTONE-validated G-Sync FHD display.

Asus says that the combination of the 240 Hz display and a boosted RTX 2070 should offer silky smooth frames without screen tearing and that the display has been color-calibrated at the factory using Asus's ProArt TruColor technology. Further, the PANTONE validation should help in displaying accurate colors across the entire sRGB range. Also on offer are dual M.2 NVMe SSDs in RAID 0 with storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB.

The GX502 is a hair thicker than the GX501 at 18.9 mm but is also lighter by about 250 g at just 2 kg. The entire chassis is made from magnesium alloy with extra rigidity at the palm rest area to minimize flex. The 15.6-inch display offers an immersive experience thanks to the 81% screen-to-body ratio.

Like the other ROG laptops launched today, the GX502 also sports the new Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) that aims to offer better cooling for a more consistent performance under load. Opening the lid exposes a hidden air intake at the back to allow for improved airflow. There are six heat pipes spread across the CPU, GPU, and VRMs with the CPU and GPU getting their own dedicated heatsink in addition to the dual heatsinks at the back. Asus has also worked on slimming down the fan blades while still enabling increased airflow output.

The ROG Zephyrus S GX502 can be charged via the USB Type-C port. There is no Thunderbolt 3 port, however. Other standard connectivity options include Gigabit Ethernet and support for 2x2 wireless AC with Asus RangeBoost. Audio capabilities are taken care of by the ESS SABRE DAC and the notebook is Hi-Res Audio certified.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX502 is available worldwide starting today. Pricing and configuration options vary by region.
