The Asus Zenfone 6 leaks in grand style, unconventional notch in tow
Asus is doing something impressive with its Zenfone devices. The Asus Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5Z were released at the start of the year and made for great value phones, with the US$500 Zenfone 5Z flagship, in particular, being worthy of note. The company will be hoping to continue the good work with the next devices in the series, details of which have surfaced.
The Zenfone 6 leaked a short while ago, painting a rather...interesting picture. The purported Zenfone 6 can be seen with a notch. Unlike the Zenfone 5 phones that opted for huge rectangular notches, the Zenfone 6 chooses to go with a rounded notch, which we’ve always preferred. That’s where the feel-good story ends, though, as the notch is positioned towards the right side of the device. We’ve never seen that before and we’re not sure how to feel about it. It’s definitely unconventional and novel but, from a design perspective, doesn’t seem optimal.
The other big takeaway from the images of the Zenfone 6 is the presence of three rear cameras. We’ve seen tri-rear cameras on a number of devices so far—LG V40, Huawei P20 Pro, etc—so it’s not surprising. The sensors are aligned vertically, a la Huawei P20 Pro. The Zenfone 5 impressed on its trip to DxOMark, so we hope to see the Zenfone 6 do even better.
