Asus promised earlier that the Android 9.0 Pie update for the ZenFone 5Z will be available sometime towards the end of January and we are now seeing the company commence rollout of the same. The update will be seeded in batches and hopefully, all users should be receiving it within the next few weeks.
According to the provided changelog, the new FOTA update will bring the base Android version to 9.0 Pie and also adds a new contextual pop-up volume bar along with a new Magnifier feature to facilitate easy copy and paste. We are not sure whether Asus has included any enhancements to the camera, battery life, or other sensors.
If you're rocking a ZenFone 5Z, you should be seeing a pop-up notification in the coming days. Just tap it and follow the instructions to download and update the device. The update weighs around 1 GB so it's best done over Wi-Fi. In case you haven't received the notification, you can also manually check for the update from the System Updates option in Settings.
The Asus ZenFone 5Z has proven itself to be a viable alternative to the likes of the OnePlus 6 and the Xiaomi Poco F1 in the flagship-killer category and has received periodic price cuts in the Indian market. Other ZenFone variants such as the Lite L1, Max M1, Max Pro M1, Max M2 and the Max Pro M2 are also expected to get the Android 9.0 Pie update by sometime in the next few months.
