The Apple MacBook Pro 15 2019 is not outdated yet

Many retailers still sell the 2019 MacBook Pro 15, even after the launch of the new MacBook Pro 16. You can often get big discounts, so is the MBP 15 still a good choice, and which components should you take?

After the launch of the new Apple MacBook Pro 16 (here in review), many retailers still sell the old 2019 MacBook Pro 15, often with big discounts, so customers can easily save a couple of hundred bucks (even more than $1000 for the high-end SKUs). Apple definitely improved some aspects with the new MBP 16 (speakers, more performance) and the heavily discussed Butterfly keyboard was replaced as well. There are still users that are happy with the old typing experience, and the performance of the MBP 15 2019 definitely does not have to hide behind the rivals.

We have reviewed almost all configurations of the MacBook Pro 15 and you should be very happy with the device in the years to come. But which components make the most sense? If we are talking about the processor, then most users will probably be satisfied with the standard 6-core Core i7 processor. If you really want 8 cores, the we recommend the standard i9-9880H. The optional Core i9-9980HK with a free multiplier is a bit faster, but it can hardly justify the additional price.

The choice gets easier in regard to the GPU, because we definitely recommend of the two optional Radeon Pro Vega GPUs (Vega 16 or Vega 20). Contrary to the regular Radeon Pro models (GCN4), they are already based on the newer GCN5 architecture, so they are faster and also more efficient.

There should be no worries about the display, because the 15.4-inch Retina screen (IPS) is still among the best displays in the market. We recommend our comprehensive reviews for more information about the different versions and components:
