Yesterday, Rare's executive producer, Joe Neate, revealed that Sea of Thieves has been around for a year already and a major update that celebrates this milestone will be unleashed on April 30. The Anniversary Update will come after the four major updates, nine time-limited events, and over 30 game updates that were delivered since the release of the game.
According to Neate, the upcoming update is the biggest content update that Sea of Thieves ever received and will come for free to all players on April 30. Described as "a game changer that takes Sea of Thieves to a whole new level," the update will bring the following highlights:
- The Arena — a new competitive game mode
- The Hunter's Call — a new trading company that brings more ways to play and progress towards Pirate Legend
- Tall Tales - Shores of Gold — a collection of quests that invites players "to embark on an epic adventure of love, honour and betrayal"
In addition to the above, Sea of Thieves Anniversary Update will also come with new Mercenary Voyages, new weapons, Sea of Thieves-themed Gamerpics to personalize Xbox Live pages, a special package for those who reached the Pirate Legend status in the first year (a Golden Legendary Tankard, a Golden Legendary Hurdy Gurdy, a Golden Legendary Blunderbuss together with Golden Legendary ship customisations including a sail, hull and figurehead), and more.
The three highlights mentioned earlier will be previewed on Mixer, Twitch, and YouTube starting April 10. For more details, feel free to take a closer look at the official announcement.
