Tesla's adaptive headlights mode allows turning a select amount of pixels off in order to achieve a less blinding experience while passing other traffic participants. This coveted high beam feature is now rolling out to the Model 3 Highland.

Tesla is finally enabling the adaptive headlights feature of the new Model 3 Highland via a software update. The latest 2024.2 version of Tesla's software includes security fixes and the long rumored adaptive headlights function.

The coveted mode is called Adaptive High Beam and adjusts the matrix headlight pixels "to reduce glare for other drivers and cyclists."

For now, the adaptive headlights feature is available only for the Model 3 Highland facelift and it dims a certain pattern of individual pixels when the car senses different traffic participants.

This allows the high beams to stay on the maximum amount of time without blinding other road users, thus improving visibility for the driver at night.

To switch on the adaptive headlights feature on the Model 3 Highland after the 2024.2 Tesla update, one can go into the vehicle's Lighting settings, and choose the Adaptive High Beam option.

The previous Tesla Model 3 upgrade featured adaptive cornering headlight capability, as evidenced by the housing certification and the array Matrix LED arrangement, but Tesla is only now unlocking the function,.

For now, the 2024.2 update brings the Adaptive High Beam mode to the new Model 3 Highland facelift in Europe whose regulators have greenlit the feature, whereas in the US the update only contains the security fixes part.

The Model 3 Highland was just released in the US, though, so it remains to be seen if it will also get the adaptive headlights option once the first deliveries start.
