While Tesla has been selling its at-home Wall Connector charger with 24' cable on Amazon for a while now, it is now branching out to take advantage of Best Buy's retail and online presence. Both its home charger with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector - formerly a proprietary Tesla port now open-sourced for anyone to use - and its universal J1772 Wall Connector, again with a 24ft cable, have now been listed for sale at Best Buy.
While delivery times have stretched to a week from now, it's the first time Tesla is selling its genuine charging accessories on Best Buy, and it will probably be a matter of time for the J1772 home charger to land on Amazon as well, just like its NACS sibling. The prices are the same - US$400 for the 24' cable Wall Connector and US$550 for the J1772 Wall Connector - as on Tesla's own web store.
After it became clear that the government's multitrillion nationwide EV charging network buildout would include charging standards interoperability as a subsidy requirement, Tesla started introducing universal adapters and connectors, and even open-sourced its heretofore proprietary charging system to qualify.
Prior to that, Tesla brought its CCS adapter to US soil and also re-launched its home charger with a J1772 wall connector that can charge non-Tesla cars. Cheaper third-party alternatives like the CCS-to-Tesla adapter made by Lectron also made a cameo not long ago as it seems that Tesla is preparing for the interoperability mandates and is positioning to remain the market leader in EV charging solutions even after the onslaught of other electric car brands and models expected to eat into its market share in the coming years.
