Tesla will have to grant access to 260 of its new Superchargers to non-Tesla electric vehicles as these will be built with government money. NSW government representatives clarified that this has been one of the state funding's eligibility criteria for subsidy applicants.

Tesla Superchargers built with federal or state subsidies will have to grant charging access to other EV makers as a condition for the funding, according to New South Wales officials. Speaking during a discussion session to comment on the proposed 500 new state-funded EV charging locations across NSW, government representatives David Malicki and Bradford Jefferies clarified that non-Tesla vehicles will be given access to Tesla's Superchargers as a subsidy grant requirement.

Tesla is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the nearly AUD$40 million in state government funds that will be doled out for new fast EV charging locations there and as such will have to comply with the connector compatibility requirements. It could do it via the rumored Magic Docks which would have an adapter already present on the charging stall.

More than half of the 500 "high-power charging" bays that the government plans to sponsor in the next two years will be for Tesla's Superchargers, so the decision to allow other EV makers on the subsidized network may prove a boon for all electric vehicle owners in Australia. That's just in the first of three funding rounds that NSW plans to hold, so the EV charging network there is bound to increase drastically in the next few years.

The new stalls would help Tesla owners, too, as recently they had to grapple with an 80% battery charging limit at Supercharger bays in busy locations at Broadway Sydney during peak hours. According to Tesla, "each charging bay will have a rated output of at least 250kW, with 2+ bays having a rated output of 350kW," as per the New South Wales Government's eligibility criteria.

The new Tesla Supercharger locations that will be compatible with other EV brands will be located at the following addresses:
