With congested Superchargers at hotspots in Sydney and excruciating Model Y or Model 3 wait times, Tesla fans in Australia and New Zealand might be having mixed feelings about their transition to sustainable transportation already. The Model 3 orders in Australia, for instance, recently widened to a whopping 12-month delivery window due to Tesla's struggles to keep the Shanghai Gigafactory humming along amid China's zero COVID-19 policy and the respective long lockdowns of the city.
While Tesla Australia still shows the Model 3 for estimated delivery in 9-12 months, those who are longing for the Model Y Down Under are in an even worse position as Tesla's SUV hasn't even gotten a release date in Australia or New Zealand yet.
Not for much longer, it seems, as Tesla might soon start filling its showrooms with demo Model Y units as a delivery truck with those has been spotted driving near Brisbane by one Michelle Price, a member of the Tesla Owners Australia group where they posted the proof in the form of pictures.
After a quick look and some height calculations, the group members agreed that these must be Model Y right-hand drive units destined for the Australian and New Zealand Tesla markets at long last.
These are typically used for showroom staff training and customer testing before a preorder is placed, so the Model Y release date in Australia may finally be nearing regardless of Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory challenges at the moment.
