Tesla Model Y is now released in Australia, Japan, and New Zealand at AU$77,356 price with decent delivery times
The Tesla Model Y SUV is now available to order in Australia, Japan, and New Zealand in a surprisingly early release that might have something to do with the Shanghai Gigafactory being restored to a full production capacity. Tesla fans Down Under had been expecting the Model Y release before the end of the year, but given the 12-month wait times for Model 3 deliveries there some were afraid that this timeframe could easily slip to 2023.
Well, not only is the Model Y landing in Australia today, but its delivery window is pegged at "just" 5-8 months of wait time. The Tesla Model Y price in Australia is also a fairly pleasant surprise. At AU$77,356 drive-away sticker for the standard range RWD model before fuel savings and eventual subsidies, the Model Y is priced lower than its starting tag in the US which, however, refers to the longer range version.
The Model Y was spotted on a delivery truck outside Brisbane just the other day and Tesla fans rightfully concluded at the time that these are showroom units for staff training and testing. Tesla Australia didn't keep them guessing for long and immediately made the electric SUV available for purchase on its website. Despite the decent pricing, the AU$3,000 incentive from the NSW government ends at the AU$68,750 threshold, so the Model Y won't qualify for that one.
Another right hand drive country - Japan - also witnessed its Model Y release date at long last, at the equivalent of US$47,037 starting price for the standard RWD model. The Model Y delivery times in Japan are even shorter than in Australia or New Zealand as you can get you EV ordered and shipped there by the end of the summer.
