Tesla Cybertruck drone video reveals panel gap and alignment issues persist despite improvements in manufacturing master candidates

Cybertruck manufacturing confirmation units, which validate the quality, process, and training of the production line, have appeared in a drone fly-over of the Texas Gigafactory. This footage reveals that the EV maker still hasn't quite managed to get its panel alignment under control, despite the expected release date fast approaching.

Tesla has seemingly backed itself into a bit of a corner when it comes to the Cybretruck. The upcoming electric pickup truck has the perfect combination of peculiar design, low price, and exotic material to cause issues in the manufacturing process. The latest round of Tesla Cybertruck candidates still exhibit uneven panel gaps and misaligned door seams in a drone video posted by Joe Tegtmeyer on YouTube.

At the 16:15 mark, the drone operator hovers over an uncovered "Series 8" Cybertruck (Series 8 supposedly indicating that it is a master candidate), and it's immediately obvious to see that, despite improvements in the overall build quality from previously-seen prototypes and release candidates, the Cybertruck still has some issues.

It seems as though Tesla has successfully addressed the frunk hood seam that previously got narrower towards the bottom of the lid. But, both of the front doors of the Cybertruck don't align properly where the front door ends and the rear door begins. The roof also appears to have fitment issues, with the height seemingly varying from right to left along the front edge of the glass panel.

That said, manufacturing inconsistencies are normal, and on any other vehicle, these flaws might be easily ignored, the sharp lines and flat body panels of the Cybertruck make these flaws stand out more than they would. Add to this the bright stainless steel, and you have a recipe fora very delayed Cybertruck.

The Cybertruck is expected to launch later this year, with a production ramp in early 2024 to start shipping to customers. It's likely that as production starts in full swing, many of the remaining inconsistencies and issues will be worked out, but that remains to be seen.
