Tails 7.6.1 drops as an emergency release to fix Tor Browser vulnerabilities

Released at the end of last month, Tails 7.6 receives an unexpected successor in the shape of Tails 7.6.1. While 7.6 came with quite a few noticeable changes, such as automatic Tor bridge retrieval via the Moat API or the replacement of KeePassXC with GNOME Secrets, as well as an upgraded kerne, version 7.6.1 is here as an emergency release. The cause for its arrival is the discovery of several vulnerabilities in Firefox 140.9.1, which would affect Tor Browser versions prior to 15.0.9. However, it should be noted that these vulnerabilities are apparently not being exploited for the time being.
Without further ado, these are the highlights of Tails 7.6.1:
- Tor Browser 15.0.9.
- Tor client 0.4.9.6.
- Thunderbird 140.9.0.
- Several firmware package updates to improve hardware compatibility and system stability.
In addition to the above, this emergency release also comes with various minor tweaks and fixes. As always, those interested in all the tiny details of the Tails update can check the changelog, which is available on GitHub.
