Debian-based lightweight live Linux distro Gnoppix hits version 24.10
Initially developed from 2002 to 2004, when its mastermind was hired by Canonical and Ubuntu became identical with it, Gnoppix Linux resurfaced in 2021. Still based on Debian, as it was the case two decades earlier, the reborn Gnoppix is now available in a free Core edition, as well as a Pro variant, which sports some extras. This week, its version number got up to 24.10, and the update comes with quite a few changes.
Gnoppix comes with LibreOffice pre-installed, alongside a few other essential apps such as Firefox, VLC, and Thunderbird. The list of basic system components available in version 24.10 that are new or were updated includes version 6.1.106 of the Linux kernel, systemd 252.30, samba 4.17.12, openssl 3.0.14d, and openjdk 17.0.12u1. For now, there is no word about the availability of the Pro flavor with label 24.10, so those interested can only get the Core edition for now.
Compared to the Pro version, Gnoppix Core has less potent AI features and lacks exclusive apps and features such as Gnoppix IPTV, Gnoppix Connect, development support, Gnoppix Advantage Productivity, support for bundled installations, dedicated infrastructure for 1 GBps updates and downloads, CEIV and HSCSC compliance, AI API access, and more. Those who want to know more about the advantages of the Pro edition should check out this comparison and details page. Also, it should be noted that a special membership level for developers is available.
Since Gnoppix is based on a Debian foundation, its users might find most of Mastering Debian Linux: From Beginner to Advanced to be quite useful. This book is available for free with Kindle Unlimited, $5.90 to buy in digital format, and $18.90 for those who want to grab the paperback version.
