System76 Lemur Pro Linux laptop gets updated with Intel Meteor Lake processors
The 2024 version of the System76 Lemur Pro is here. Like most of the recently launched laptops, it brings Intel Meteor Lake processors. The base configuration of the Linux laptop features Intel Core Ultra 5 125U, 8 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB PCIe 4.0 SSD.
On the other hand, the maxed-out configuration of the laptop packs Intel Core Ultra 7 155U, 56 GB of DDR5 RAM, and 4 TB primary SSD with an additional 4 TB drive. So, in both cases, you’re getting a U-series processor, which focuses on power efficiency rather than performance.
But the Lemur Pro from System76 isn’t about high performance to begin with. Instead, one of the main highlights is the software. You can get the Linux laptop shipped with the company’s own Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS or Ubuntu 22.04 LTS operating system installed.
Moreover, the System76 Lemur Pro comes with open firmware apps, including EDK2, Coreboot, and the company’s open-source embedded controller firmware. The laptop also has a dedicated application to configure the keyboard and LED lights.
Another highlight of the Lemur Pro is that it measures just 0.67 inches in thickness and weighs only 2.2 pounds. This makes the Linux laptop “ultraportable.” Other notable aspects include a rich set of I/O with a Thunderbolt 4 port, 73 Wh battery, stereo speakers, WiFi 6E, and a 14-inch matte screen with a 180-degree hinge. You can learn more from the complete spec sheet attached below.
Pricing-wise, the 2024 Lemur Pro starts at $1,399, which is a bit high for a laptop with Intel Core Ultra 5 125U. For reference, you can get a 2024 Acer Swift Go 14 with Core Ultra 7 155H processor for $999.99 (curr. $899.99 on Amazon). But, again, System76’s offering is more about the software, which may justify the price to some.
