Suunto is showing how not to handle FCC certification, as the U.S. Federal Communications Commission has already published photos of the next-generation smartwatch. In addition to details about the features, the certification also includes a picture of the packaging.

Before a product capable of wireless communication can be sold in the U.S., it must be certified by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Typically, such certifications reveal details about the wireless standards a product supports and serve as indications that a launch is planned within the next few months.

However, the FCC certification for the Suunto Run 2 even includes images of the smartwatch, since Suunto attached an image of the packaging, which was not included in the confidentiality letter, and the documents also contain several photos of the smartwatch. Compared to the Suunto Run ($179 on Amazon), the design hasn’t changed significantly.

As before, the Suunto Run 2 features a round display with relatively wide bezels. The case protrudes slightly beyond the display glass to protect it from impacts. The Suunto logo is visible on the lower edge of the case. The watch appears to use standard watch straps and features a digital crown as well as two additional buttons on the right side. The image of the packaging confirms that the Suunto Run 2 is compatible with both the Apple iPhone and Android smartphones, while the CE marking suggests plans for a launch in Europe.

Suunto apparently includes a silicone sports wristband. The FCC certification also confirms that the smartwatch supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 5, and dual-band GPS. However, this affordable running smartwatch does not feature a built-in LTE modem or an NFC chip for contactless payments. The first-generation Suunto Run was released in May 2025. It is not yet known exactly when the successor model will be officially unveiled.
