Motorola Moto Watch Ultra leaked with fresh design, digital crown, GPS, and LTE
Motorola appears to be adding an Ultra model to the Moto Watch lineup ($104 on Amazon) soon, as The Mac Observer has already published the first images of the Moto Watch Ultra, showing the flagship smartwatch from the front and back.
The relatively wide bezel, the dial with three complications, and the controls via touchscreen, digital crown, and an additional side button appear to be carried over unchanged from the Moto Watch. New features include the stainless steel case, which is water-resistant up to 5 ATM, allowing the watch to be worn while swimming. With a diameter of 46 millimeters, the case is slightly more compact than that of the more affordable Moto Watch.
Motorola is also replacing the sensor module on the back. The much larger PPG sensor uses five LEDs and four large photodiodes to measure heart rate, and possibly blood oxygen saturation, as accurately as possible. A metal ring around the sensor module could function as an ECG, BIA, or EDA sensor, however, it has not yet been confirmed whether the smartwatch features any of these sensors.
What is certain is that the Motorola Moto Watch Ultra features both a GPS module and a built-in LTE modem. This allows the smartwatch to track the distance covered while running or cycling and receive notifications on the go, even without a smartphone. It is not yet known when or at what price the Moto Watch Ultra will be released. Details about the operating system are also still pending. It remains to be seen whether Motorola will stick with a simple RTOS-based system or use Google’s Wear OS.
