Surface Pro 9, Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Studio 3 details emerge with 12th Gen Intel Core processors all round

Roland Quandt has fleshed out details about the Surface Pro 9 and the Surface Laptop 5, two of at least five products that Microsoft is expected to announce later this month. Incidentally, Quandt claims to have obtained more information about the Surface Studio 3, Microsoft's next-generation all-in-one (AIO) desktop PC that appeared recently on the FCC's database. Reputedly, Microsoft plans to release the Surface Pro 9 5G as well, the successor to the Surface Pro X, plus Project Volterra.

Allegedly, Microsoft will only offer the Surface Studio 3 in one configuration across Europe. Specifically, Quandt reports that the Surface Studio 3 will ship with 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD and an unnamed Intel Core i7 processor. According to Windows Central, Microsoft has settled on 12th Gen Intel Core processors, with laptop variants seemingly more likely than their desktop counterparts. Currently, those parameters leave the Core i7-12650H, Core i7-12650HX, Core i7-12700H, Core i7-12800H and the Core i7-12800HX as Microsoft's options, unless it and Intel create a custom variant. As it stands, it is unclear whether Microsoft will offer the Surface Studio 3 with a discrete GPU or merely the iGPUs contained with Intel's processors.

Reportedly, Microsoft will sell the Surface Pro 9 and Surface Laptop 5 with identical 15 W processors, despite the existence of a 15-inch Surface Laptop 5 model. Supposedly, Microsoft will sell both machines with a choice between the Core i5-1235U and Core i7-1255U for consumers, but the Core i5-1245U and Core i7-1265U for business customers. For reference, the latter feature higher clock speeds than the former and support Intel vPro. As Quandt reported previously, the pair should be available with 256 GB to 1 TB of storage, although 32 GB of RAM will not be headed to the smaller Surface Laptop 5. Microsoft should present both models on October 12.
