A VR playable version of the game Red Light, Green Light, as seen in Netflix's Squid Game, is now available on Oculus Quest devices. The game has been built by Soaring Roc, who you may know from their games Let's Go Chopping! and Sun Shard.
Red Light, Green Light is similar to the children's game Statues or Grandma's Footsteps. Players race towards a finish line when 'Green Light' is called, and must remain motionless when 'Red Light' is called. If the player is caught moving by the game's controller after 'Red Light' is called then the player is out. In the case of Squid Game, the game's controller is a giant doll with lasers for eyes, and being 'out' means being killed.
The VR version is slightly less terrifying than the version seen on TV. If players are caught by the doll then they simply return to the starting line. You move forward by moving your handheld controllers through movements such as waving your hands. The game is played online against other randomly assigned players. To win the game, you need to score the most points. You gain points each time you reach the finish line and lose points when you do not make it.
The game is available through App Lab and you can download it via the Oculus Store. While the game is technically free, Soaring Roc is asking users to make donations as they see fit.
