Dyson, best known for its vacuum cleaners, has revealed a new virtual reality (VR) store. This VR experience, named the Dyson Demo VR, allows customers to learn more about and test Dyson's hairdryers, straighteners, styling tools and its latest cordless vacuum, the Dyson V15 Detect.
You can walk through a virtual space in the store to watch demonstrations and discover 3D images of tools such as the Supersonic hairdryer. You can also pick up the gadgets, try them out on virtual hair and find out how the products are built through interviews with engineers and visual animations.
At the moment, customers cannot purchase products through the VR store, though Dyson would like to add checkout functionality in the future. Dyson also plans to add more virtual products to the experience and offer virtual consultations with its team members.
According to Dyson, the VR store has been built using similar technologies employed by its engineers when designing and prototyping devices. These tools have allowed it to develop products such as an electric car, which has since been scrapped. Testing the vehicle through VR enabled the team to quickly iterate on different prototypes and trial elements before they had been physically made.
The VR store isn't the only virtual service Dyson offers; the company also live stream events on its website and offer one to one demonstrations with so-called 'Dyson experts'. You can access Dyson's virtual store via an app available from Oculus App Lab.
