Sony has announced the creation of the Airpeak brand, which is to be applied to a new series of drones developed by this OEM. However, it seems these devices are to be pitched at professional content creators and enterprise customers rather than take on products like the DJI Mavic series. Their first examples may be launched in the spring of 2021.
Sony has released a statement acknowledging drones and the role they have taken in photography, particularly at angles or conditions that may have been out of reach for content creators before their emergence. To that end, the Japanese electronics giant has started a new product line called Airpeak.
This brand is indeed for the new UAVs the company has in mind. However, DJI or Parrot need not take note, as these flying robots are not directed at consumers. Instead, Sony has stated that Airpeak drones are intended for "professional" customers who are most likely to be in the studio-grade entertainment industry.
Alternatively, these new devices might be pitched at other kinds of businesses, particularly those in need of high-end image-capture in challenging environments. The first fruits of the Airpeak project might be unveiled in the first part of 2021.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
