Sony plans to sell refurbished PlayStation 5 for half the price of PS5 Pro

The new Sony PS5 Pro brings three key upgrades: better GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven Upscaling. If you're looking for numbers, it has 28% faster memory, sports a GPU with 67% more compute units, and is 45% faster in rendering games. However, all these come with a hefty price increase, with a retail price of $699.99. This makes the new PlayStation 5 Pro the most expensive gaming console from the company.

As for the good part, with the announcement of the PS5 Pro, Sony has also revealed that it will be selling "certified refurbished" PlayStation 5 for half the price of the Pro. More specifically, the refurbished Digital Edition will go at $349.99, a $100 price cut from a brand-new system (Slim available on Amazon).

PlayStation Direct, Sony's online store, will sell refurbished standard PS5 as well. That will cost $399.99, which is also a $100 price cut from the regular price. Sony highlights that these refurbished gaming consoles are "as good as new." The company also offers quality assurance.

Sony says that all the "certified refurbished" PS5 systems have gone through "a rigorous recertification process." This process includes "full testing" that ensures the same "functional standards" as their new counterparts. The company will also be selling refurbished DualSense controllers on PlayStation Direct. They will maintain the same quality standard too.

However, Sony notes that refurbished PS5 models and controllers may have minor "cosmetic imperfections," but all of them will come with a 12-month warranty. The company hasn't yet shared when the refurbished units will be available.
