Sony has begun selling refurbished units of the original PlayStation 5 console released in 2020, with a starting price of $350. However, Amazon also has a deal on the newer PS5 Slim which is tempting.

Sony revealed in September that it was going to begin selling certified refurbished PS5 units. If you have been waiting for the consoles to be available for purchase, you can grab them now on the PlayStation Direct website.

The refurbished PlayStation 5 sold by Sony is not the slim version but the original launched in 2020. It is available in two variants - the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition which costs $349.99 and the PlayStation 5 (disc version) which costs $399.99. While the consoles should work just like a new one, they might have minor cosmetic imperfections.

Both variants come with a certified refurbished console, a certified refurbished controller, charging and power cables, HDMI cable, and a base. The console also comes with a pre-installed copy of Astro's Playroom just like a brand new unit. Sony says the refurbished PS5s have a one year warranty.

It is stated on the site that buyers are limited to one console per order due to the high demand. The digital edition comes in a black box while the disc version has a white box, both of which clearly state that the console is refurbished.

While a refurbished PS5 that works just like a new one and at a starting price of $350 is pretty nice, you can get a nice deal on the newer PS5 Slim. Instead of paying $400 for the refurbished PS5 (2020 disc version), for $50 extra, you can get a brand new PS5 Slim on Amazon. That's $50 off its original price.

The PS5 Slim is not only smaller but lighter. It also has 1TB of storage whereas the refurbished version has 825GB. For $50 more, the PS5 Slim seems to be the sensible purchase, at least until it returns to its original price.
