Sony Xperia X Performance Android flagship gets Oreo update

Next to the Xperia XZ and XZs, the Sony Xperia X Performance also receives the Android Oreo update this month. The new firmware includes the latest security patch from Google and comes with new features such as autofill, smart text selection, Xperia Actions, and more.

Back in late April, Sony released a software update for the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The build number of that update was 41.2.A.2.199, and now the time has finally arrived for the first Android 8.0 Oreo-based firmware to reach the Xperia X Performance. Carrying the build number 41.3.A.0.401, this new update has begun its rollout last week, when it became available for the Xperia XZ and Xperia XZs.

According to XPERIA Blog, this new software update for the Xperia X Performance is live for both the single SIM (F8131) and dual-SIM (F8132) models of this flagship. The official changelog reveals that the 1,254.7 MB update includes the following highlights:

  • reminders for unfinished tasks such as draft emails and messages
  • Xperia Actions - user profiles based on usage, including gaming and commuting
  • smart text selection - "contextually recognizes and suggests useful options based on selected text"
  • autofill - easy to store and then to fill in personal information when needed

The Android security patch level of the update says "November 1, 2017" and, in addition to the above, some users might also enjoy the overhauled shortcuts, now accessible via a long-press for direct access to some actions. As usual, the update rolls out in stages, so if you own one of these beautiful (and quite expensive) flagships, you should know that it might take a while for the Android Oreo update to reach your handset.
