Movano Health has announced that it has received FDA certification for its EvieMED Ring. Such FDA certification basically verifies that a device is suitable for measuring certain parameters in a corresponding area of application, i.e., that users can rely on the measured values obtained. Such certification or approval as a medical device is probably the strongest indication that such wearables function as advertised, which is of course paramount for end customers.
The EvieMED Ring from Movano Health has been certified in relation to the functionality of the pulse oximeter. Pulse oximetry deals with the (relative) oxygen saturation of the blood. This value is usually over 90%, but can drop in the case of very severe illnesses. Oxygen saturation can also drop during sleep, which can be a sign of sleep apnea. Such symptoms should be immediately checked by a medical professional.
With FDA certification, the EvieMED Ring can also be used by medical personnel in studies, such as investigating the effectiveness of various measures against drops in oxygen saturation during sleep. In the press release, the company states that it is in talks with global pharmaceutical companies over the use of its EvieMED Ring in upcoming clinical studies and is also continuing to work on RF technology for measuring blood pressure and blood sugar concentration using radio frequencies.
