Smart floor lamps with spectacular lighting effects: Govee Tree, Uplighter and Torchiere review
Marcus Schwarten (translated by DeepL / Marcus Schwarten) Published 🇩🇪 🇫🇷 ...
With Tree, Uplighter and Torchiere, Govee has launched three new smart floor lamps. We took a look at the differences between the new floor lamps from Govee, what sets them apart and what they are suitable for in a practical test.
What Govee Torchiere, Uplighter and Tree have in common
Let's first look at what the three new Torchiere, Uplighter and Tree lights from Govee have in common. They can all be controlled and adjusted with the Govee app, can display 16 million colors and thus also provide colorful lighting effects. All models can display several colors at the same time.
As you would expect from Govee, the manufacturer offers numerous scenes for the three floor lamps so that beautiful lighting effects can be created right from the start. If you want, you can of course get creative and create your own effects or use the integrated AI. The Govee app is quite easy to use, as is the initial brief setup of the new lamps. However, in our opinion, the app is not as stylish and clear as that of market leader Philips Hue, for example.
Govee Torchiere, Uplighter and Tree are all certified with Matter. This means that they can be integrated into other smart home platforms.
Govee Tree: classic floor lamp with three spotlights
The Govee Tree $169.99 RRP is the most classic model of the manufacturer's three new products. It is a floor lamp in very dark gray with three spotlights that can be flexibly adjusted by 350 and 90 degrees and can therefore illuminate three areas of a room in a targeted manner. In addition, the focus can be adjusted from spot to wide spread to change the size of the light beam.
For example, the Govee Tree can be used for indirect lighting and colorful lighting effects on walls and ceilings or for targeted illumination of a reading chair and other objects. Classic light can be set from warm white (2700K) to cool white (6500K). The measured energy consumption at full brightness is approx. 28 Wh.
Visually, the almost 160 cm tall Tree has a simple design and therefore also looks good in stylish and modern rooms. At first glance, it does not stand out as a smart light, but could also be a classic "dumb" floor lamp. The foot switch for switching it on and off on the power cable also contributes to this.
Govee Uplighter: Spectacular lighting effects
The Govee Uplighter for $179.99 RRP with its large, round UFO-shaped light element with a diameter of approx. 28 cm at the top of the 170 cm high aluminum frame is much more eye-catching. However, the uplighter is also even more extensively adjustable.
Govee packs three separately adjustable lighting elements into the uplighter. It shines downwards like a classic floor lamp from cool to warm white and can therefore directly illuminate a corner of a room. So far, so classic. The middle segment is a ring of light that can shine in up to eight different colors at the same time and thus reproduce nice color gradients. This does not provide particularly bright, but atmospheric lighting in a room.
However, the biggest special feature is in the top of the Uplighter. It creates dynamic and wave-like lighting effects on the ceiling, which can also be customized in various ways to suit your taste. The individual lighting elements can be used individually or together. We measured a maximum power consumption of 20 Wh in the test. An interesting feature of the Govee Uplighter and its autorun feature is that various lighting effects can be played automatically over the course of the day.
Govee Torchiere: Wallwashing in up to three colors
The third new product, the Govee Torchiere for $149.99 RRP, is reminiscent of the recently introduced Wallwasher from competitor Philips Hue (from around $220 on Amazon), but in the design of a floor lamp. It has three rounded LED elements in its head, which can be rotated by 330 and 60 degrees, creating beautiful color gradients on walls and ceilings. At a party, the torchiere can also flash wildly to the beat of the music.
The Govee Torchiere measures around 170 cm in height, consumes approx. 20 Wh at full lighting and, like all new products, is equipped with a 28 x 28 cm round base. This ensures a relatively stable stand. We liked the quality of all three new floor lamps from Govee in our hands-on test. They have a high-quality finish and add more choice to the Govee world of colorful lights.
