Slimbook readies 4th gen Linux-based KDE laptops powered by AMD's Ryzen 7 5700U
Spanish laptop OEM Slimbook is introducing the 4th gen notebooks developed in collaboration with the developers of Linux KDE. The latest 14-inch and 15.6-inch KDE IV models are powered by AMD’s Ryzen 7 5700U processors with Zen 2 Lucienne cores and Vega 8 iGPU, plus they feature slim and light chassis.
System specs for the two models are essentially the same, with the exception of the display size and the battery capacity. Thus, the 14-inch model weighs 2.31 lbs (1.05 kg) and features a 47 Wh battery, while the 15.6-inch version weighs 3.42 lbs (1.55 kg) and integrates a 92.6 Wh battery. Both models have a profile of 0.66 inch (16.8 mm).
Screenwise, the refreshed laptops offer a 1080p IPS panel with 60 Hz refresh rate and 100% sRGB color gamut. AMD’s Ryzen 7 5700U processor is complemented by up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and up to 4 TB of NVMe SSD storage via two M.2 slots. Connectivity is ensured through a Wi-Fi 6 + BT 5.2 module, as well as a GbE NIC. The HD webcam integrates an IR sensor for biometric security measures. Port selection includes USB-C 3.1 with DP video and power delivery, 2x USB-A 3.1 and a USB 2.0, plus an HDMI 2.0b video output along with the GbE and audio jacks.
Slimbook is selling the new models with Ubuntu LTS KDE Neon OS and a suite of apps pre-installed. The basic configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 250 GB SSD is priced at €999.95 for the 14-inch model and the 15.6-inch base model costs €1,049. Users can separately add more RAM and storage or they can choose from the options offered by Slimbook.
