Security-focused OpenBSD 7.9 launches with scheduling improvements and more

OpenBSD 7.9 is here as the 60th release of this open-source, security-focused operating system. This new OpenBSD refresh brings a new song, along with a comprehensive list of changes across the many platforms it supports. The "Diamond in the Rough" song is the first one since "The Wizard and the Fish," which came with the 7.3 release. This practice started with version 3.0, and, until now, three audio CDs have been made, with around 5 songs each. Now, to OpenBSD 7.9 itself...
Without further ado, these are some of the many highlights mentioned in the official OpenBSD 7.9 release page (see the Source link beneath the last paragraph to get to it):
- Now ice is enabled on arm64, which also received support for the RK3588 and RK3576 SoCs and the Genesys Logic GL9755 SDHC controller.
- SMU support was added to amdpmc, alongside a fix for the floating-point state leakage observed on AMD Zen/Zen+ (Zen 1).
- The luna88k compiler has been switched to gcc4.
- Multiple improvements for the SpacemiT K1 SoC, which is also a newly supported piece of hardware in this version.
- Better CPU core management for processors with different core speeds.
- Delayed hibernation implemented.
- SMP improvements and drm updated to Linux 6.18.22.
- Multiple VMM/VMD and virtualization improvements.
- Several new userland features, including display of the close-on-fork flag as 'f' in the R/W column to fstat alongside various bug fixes and tweaks.
- IEEE 802.11 wireless stack improvements and fixes.
- LibreSSL 4.3.0 with support for MLKEM768_X25519 keyshare in TLS and a long list of tweaks and fixes.
- OpenSSH 10.3.
In addition to the above, many pre-built packages for each architecture are available. Some of the highlights in the list include GNOME 49, Chromium 147.0.7727.101, Mozilla Firefox 150.0 and ESR 140.10.0, Sudo 1.9.17p2, Python 2.7.18 and 3.13.13, Xfce 4.20.0, and many more. Finally, it's worth noting that the floppy disk is still a boot option today.
