Sandisk's NAS 600 and NAS 800 SSDs are now available, with capacities of up to 4 TB and 7.68 TB, respectively. The SATA model delivers read speeds of up to 560 MB/s, while the PCIe 5.0 model reaches 14,900 MB/s.

Sandisk has released two SSD series designed for NAS (network-attached storage) systems. The NAS 600 uses a 2.5-inch SATA interface, while the NAS 800 is an M.2 2280 NVMe drive with PCIe 5.0 support.

The NAS 600 is available in capacities ranging from 500 GB to 4 TB. It reaches sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s, with write speeds varying by capacity. The 500 GB model is rated at up to 505 MB/s, the 1 TB and 2 TB versions at up to 515 MB/s, and the 4 TB model at up to 520 MB/s.

These speeds are similar to those of Samsung's 870 EVO, a 2.5-inch SATA SSD covered in our report on its launch. Samsung specifies write speeds of up to 530 MB/s. Sandisk rates its 4 TB NAS 600 for up to 2,500 TBW, slightly higher than the 2,400 TBW rating of the 4 TB 870 EVO.

Sandisk specifies an MTTF (Mean Time to Failure) of up to 2.25 million hours for the NAS 600. The drive also comes with a five-year limited warranty. Its 2.5-inch, 7 mm design makes it suitable for NAS systems that support SATA drives, although actual compatibility depends on the NAS enclosure.

The NAS 800 targets users who need considerably higher transfer speeds. It uses a PCIe 5.0 interface and comes in capacities ranging from 960 GB to 7.68 TB. The 1.92 TB version reaches sequential read and write speeds of up to 14,900 MB/s and 13,200 MB/s, respectively. The 3.84 TB model is rated for up to 2.3 million random read IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second) and 2 million random write IOPS.

The NAS 800 offers similar sequential transfer speeds to Samsung's 9100 Pro (currently available on Amazon), which we covered last year. Samsung's SSD reaches read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s. However, Samsung targets consumer PCs and game consoles, while Sandisk designed the NAS 800 for NAS systems.

Endurance varies by capacity. Sandisk rates the 7.68 TB NAS 800 for up to 14 PBW. Before buying one, check whether your NAS supports an M.2 2280 SSD with a PCIe 5.0 connection.
