Minisforum launches new affordable NAS with compact design and 40TB storage support

Minisforum has made the S5 NAS available for purchase. This is an all-flash system that was introduced at the Computex 2026 event alongside the N5 Max. Unlike the latter, the slim and compact S5 is powered by the Intel Wildcat Lake platform.
Specifically, it packs the Intel Core 3 304, an entry-level CPU from the lineup. The 15TOPS NPU means the Minisforum S5 won’t be capable of offering any advanced AI-powered NAS features, but the good news is that, with the single-core Xe3 iGPU, this Wildcat Lake processor supports AV1 decode and encode. The media engine also supports VP9 and AVC 10-bit encoding and decoding.
Thanks to the all-flash design, Minisforum was able to keep the form factor compact, measuring 176.5mm in height and 60mm in width. There are a total of five NVME slots, with the total storage capacity standing at 40TB, which should be enough for a home media server and small creative teams.
For those who might want to expand later down the line, there are two USB4 ports, which bring support for high-speed storage accessories (Ugreen 40Gbps NVMe enclosure curr. $69.98 on Amazon). The 2.5GbE and 10GbE LAN ports promise speedy wired connectivity, and for wireless connections, the NAS has WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
Besides the USB4 and the LAN ports, the connectivity selection of the Minisforum S5 NAS includes one HDMI 2.1 and three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports. Another highlight of the NAS is that it has a passive cooling system, meaning that it will stay silent during operation, which is a plus for those who might use it as a home media server.
The S5 NAS is available with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 128GB of UFS storage. Minisforum is offering two options, and the one without any SSDs installed costs $599. Check out the spec sheet attached below to learn more.
