Samsung expected to cut prices on latest smartphones

Teaser
Samsung may be planning to cut the prices of its flagship smartphones soon.

Samsung unfortunately revealed that it had a disappointing last quarter, and the low sales for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were key reasons as to why. The manufacturer maintained the view that the S6 did not have enough consumer demand, and that the S6 Edge simply took too long to produce enough to satisfy the high demand. Despite this, however, the company seems to be considering a price drop for the two devices.

In Samsung's earnings report, it was mentioned that there would be certain "adjustments" made to the prices of the two flagship smartphones. Though the specific changes were not revealed, this is a pretty good clue that the company will be lowering prices soon to sell more phones. Throughout the quarter, Samsung's sales declined as well as its marketshare in the industry, and a major reason for this was Apple's surprisingly strong sales.

In the end, the Seoul-based electronics company has vowed to come up with better premium and better affordable smartphones in order to take on the completion more handily. Samsung is also likely eyeing price cuts in the wake of an upcoming iPhone release. The strong sales of the newest iPhone upon release have always had adverse affects on other smartphone manufacturer's sales, and Samsung is likely trying to avoid this.
