Samsung brings August 2023 update to Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung has released its August 2023 update for the Galaxy S23 series, which currently consists of the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra. According to reports, the new update has landed in Southeast Asian countries first, such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. However, Samsung tends to only take a few days before delivering equivalent updates in other markets.

Based on Samsung's changelog, it has only upgraded the trio to the 2023-08-01 security patch. It is worth noting that Google recently started upgrading its devices to the newer 2023-08-05 patch, which addresses more security vulnerabilities than 2023-08-01. For some reason, Samsung's update package is comparatively large despite its apparent lack of meaningful changes. For context, Google's equivalent update is less than a 50 MB download. In comparison, the August 2023 update for the Galaxy S23 series is over 1.3 GB, 3x the size of last month's update.

Reportedly, updating to AWGJ also introduces new versions of Camera Gallery and One UI Home apps, although Samsung has not described what changes it has made in this regard. Incidentally, Samsung is expected to bring One UI 5.1.1 to the Galaxy S23 series soon, which debuted last month with the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5. The first One UI 6 Beta is also due any day now, with Samsung Germany having leaked details about the Android 14-based update earlier this week.
