Archive.org versionExtras tend to count for a lot more if all the basics are in place. Would you care about sporty wheels and tinted windows on a two-cylinder Fiat? That may seem like a harsh analogy, but we think it's not too far from what you get with the Samsung RC512. Our enthusiasm for this laptop's speed and battery life, as well as the premium feature mix for the price, is dampened by questionable build quality.

Archive.org versionThough I wouldn't call it the most powerful laptop in the world, the Samsung RC512-S02 does offer quad-core processing, decent graphics power, and a sample of some of the hottest laptop technologies in a desktop replacement laptop. That, or go with the Dell XPS 15 (Sandy Bridge) or the cream of the crop—the Editors' Choice Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Thunderbolt).

NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M: Based on the GeForce GT 425M with slightly higher core clock speeds.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2630QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
