Samsung Galaxy SmartTag more powerful next-gen model rumored
Rumors suggest a second-generation model of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag will launch later this year. A report by a Korean media outlet, Naver, claims that an industry source confirmed the new gadget, which could be unveiled alongside devices like the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 5 and Galaxy Watch 6. According to Naver, one insider indicated that the updated Smart Tag would have an extended wireless range and improved security features to ensure you cannot be tracked against your will.
It has been suggested that, like its predecessors, the device would support SmartThings, allowing you to connect the gadget to other smart home products. A second unnamed source also claimed the new tag would have an enhanced range and better security, alongside a louder tracking sound and longer battery life. The current Samsung Galaxy SmartTag has a Bluetooth range of up to 120 m (~394 ft), assuming no obstacles in its path. A replaceable CR2032 battery provides up to 300 days of battery life, and a buzzer can guide you to the tracker.
The slightly newer Galaxy SmartTag+ adds an AR Finding feature, which uses UWB and a compatible phone's camera to provide visual clues in the SmartThings mobile app to help you locate your missing item; the UWB range is 15 m (~49 ft). The current SmartTag measures 39.1 x 39.1 x 10.4 mm (~1.54 x 1.54 x 0.41-in) and weighs around 13 g (~0.46 oz), retailing for US$29.99. Samsung has not officially announced a second-generation Galaxy SmartTag, so details such as a release date and pricing remain unknown.
