Samsung has pivoted from specializing in high-end smartphones that integrate their own styli to making ones that are about as thin as an S Pen instead with the Galaxy S25 Edge.
The $969.99 and up device has the same display size and internals (top-end Snapdragon 8 Elite processor included) as the Galaxy S25+, yet has only about 80% of the depth at its narrowest point (mostly because it also has just 80% of the battery capacity).
Now, there are signs that the risk in bringing the 5.8 millimeter (mm) device to market might not have paid off, even though it has allegedly beaten the "iPhone 17 Air" to the punch in 2025.
An industry insider blog asserts that the Edge's sales since its May 2025 launch are relatively thin on the ground, especially for a company used to consistently stretching records with release and pre-order shipment numbers for its Galaxy S-series flagships.
Samsung is now allegedly considering cutting back on its production volume for the first-gen ultra-slim flagship smartphone. It will be interesting to see if the company really follows through on its rumored plans to replace the next-gen Galaxy S26+ with the S26 Edge at the time of writing.
