Samsung Galaxy A30

There is one thing that I don’t understand in particular with Samsung's strategy. Yes, of course they make good flagship phones, but when it comes to mid or low range phones, there aren’t that many good options from Samsung. Sure, by throwing lots of new models each year, it seems like they want to give it a try. But competing with your models is not something that you would want to do. This is what is happening with the A30. Samsung introduced the A50, A30 and M30 models this year. The A50 is the better out of 3, the A30 seems to take the mid place in terms of performance. But the M30 can be purchased with more RAM for a bit more cash. Now who can use the A30? Or lets put it better, who should buy the A30? Well, if you are using your phone just for texting and calls, it is really good. When you start to use it for lets say social media or maybe gaming, things get a bit laggy lets say. Transition between screen can sometimes be laggy. The processor is not that powerful to handle everything on a daily basis. For some this can become really frustrating, quickly. Considering the fact that Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 Pro is better in terms of everything, it seems like the A30 will have a hard time competing. Even compared with the M30, the A30 tends to stay behind. This begs the question, why provide two similar models in the same class? Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer. I am sure Samsung’s marketing teams know better than I do. Cameras are okay during daylight. I mean they can take okay images, but nothing more. There is no depth or detail per se. Low light situation is worse of course. If you are not an avid photographer, there is not a problem with that of course. You can still use those pictures you take on Instagram of course. With some filters they will do the trick. The latest Android is included, so the phone is up to date with the newest features. The battery is good, let’s not pass that. A full day with a regular usage is possible. Can I suggest a purchase? If you are not a Samsung fan and looking for the best value for your money: no, because as I said, there are better options from the competition. Is their brand as strong as Samsung’s? Of course not. But do they provide better performance / camera? Yup. So, it is up to you what you want to do with your money. Hands-on article by Ümit Yılmaz Güneş

In 2015 and 2016, Samsung had a market share of around 24-25% in the global smartphone market and was undisputed market leader. In the laptop sector, Samsung is on the 8th place in the global manufacturer rankings from 2014-2016 with 1.7-2.7%.

 

In 2016 Samsung slipped into a crisis due to exploding smartphone batteries and a failed recall action.

Exynos 7885: Exynos 7 Series SoC that includes two fast Cortex-A73 cores clocked at up to 2.2 GHz and six power efficient Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.6 GHz. The integrated LTE modem supports Cat.12 DL and Cat.13 UL.

Exynos 7904: Exynos 7 Series SoC that includes two fast Cortex-A73 cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz and six power efficient Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.6 GHz. The integrated LTE modem supports Cat.12 DL and Cat.13 UL. Compared to the older and faster Exynos 7885, the 7904 offers a slower clocked A73 cores (1.8 versus 2.2 GHz).
