Apple is said to be working once again on its failed AirPower project. The tip comes from Jon Prosser who has been a fountain of hot Apple tips lately yesterday pointing to a 5G iPad Pro model he says will debut later this year.

Tipster Jon Prosser is working overtime to be a thorn in Apple’s side recently with a series of hot Apple rumors that has apparently gotten up Apple’s nose as they have been coming thick, fast and too accurate for Apple’s liking. His latest rumor is that Apple has resurrected the stillborn AirPower Qi wireless charging mat project after the vaporware spectacularly imploded around this time last year after being unveiled several months earlier as ‘coming soon’.

At the time, inside information provided by well-known Apple insider Sonny Dickson suggested that Apple’s engineers weren’t able to deliver on what was promised when it was first revealed. Qi charging pads can be a little unreliable as they often require the user to find the ‘sweet spot’ to get a charge and the AirPower was supposed to eliminate this, remain thin and also charge up to three devices at a time. No matter what Apple tried at the time, they couldn’t keep it both thin and cool.

According to Prosser, Apple is again trying to find a way to dissipate the heat charging three devices generates and is said to be re-engineering the coils to “displace the heat more effectively’. To this end, a team of engineers has started prototyping the revised designs in the hope of bringing it to market. Although never admitting to the specific issues it faced last time round, on its cancellation Apple said it was unable to “achieve our high standards”. If Apple gets it right, it could be the charging Qi charging mat of choice.
