The Rufus Cuff is apparently not a pipedream after all. Well, the original design is, but the rufuslabs now plans to release a 2020 edition to original backers, instead. The new model is getting a release date too. Six years on from raising nearly US$500,000 on Indiegogo, rufuslabs has promised to start delivering the Rufus Cuff from this summer onwards. It does not seem that rufuslabs plans to honour the accessories it originally planned to release too, though.
The statement from the company is as follows:
We will be emailing all contributors with more details and asking for updated contact/shipping information in the next two weeks. We anticipate shipments to begin this summer, starting with the first 500 backers.
In addition to the new 2020 Rufus Cuff, as a special thanks for being a big part of our history, every backer will receive a custom made part designed for the Original RC. These will never be produced again, and only a few thousand were made.
We appreciate all of your support, patience, and early backing of Rufus Labs. We can’t wait to get you a 2020 experience with your new Rufus wearable. More to come... very soon!
As the table below demonstrates, the 2020 Rufus Cuff is a completely different device to the one that rufuslabs planned in 2014. However, Liliputing raises the point that the specifications of the new Rufus Cuff are eerily similar to the Lemfo LEM T, a device that Gearbest currently sells for US$129.99. By comparison, the Rufus Cuff cost US$229 in 2014.
Shockingly, rufuslabs is not offering refunds for disgruntled backers, of which there are many.
