The SHIFT13mi is a new detachable 2-in-1 tablet that focuses on sustainability. The device combines high performance with a modular design that should make it more repairable than many of its peers.

The SHIFT13mi is one intriguing device. Developed by SHIFT, a company with a similar ethos to Fairphone, the SHIFT13mi has been designed with repairability in mind. According to SHIFT, the SHIFT13mi will feature a replaceable battery among other modular components. SHIFT aims to make at least the storage replaceable too, but it remains to be seen whether it will include SO-DIMM slots too.

The SHIFT13mi would be SHIFT's first non-smartphone, with the company having released eight smartphones since 2015. A 2-in-1 tablet with a detachable keyboard, the SHIFT13mi will include the following components:

  • Intel Core i5 Tiger Lake processor
  • 13.3-inch Full HD+ touchscreen display
  • up to 64 GB of LPDDR4 RAM
  • 500 GB SSD
  • Dual M.2 slots
  • Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 6 and Thunderbolt 4 Type C

The SHIFT13mi will also support an Active Pen and will run Linux or Windows 10. Its detachable keyboard will be backlit, too.

SHIFT estimates that it will start shipping the SHIFT13mi in 1H2021. It is currently taking pre-orders for €1,222.00. The company plans to ship internationally, too.
