A new 3D printer with a rather innovative approach has been unveiled, although the so-called Palette 300 is not available just yet. This device will initially be offered as part of a crowdfunding campaign, but specific pricing information has not been unveiled thus far. That said, one particular feature could set the printer apart from other models, namely it’s revolver-style system with a total of 12 nozzles.
These can be swapped automatically, which should be advantageous when printing with multiple filaments or colors. Typically, a swap requires the filament to be cut and reloaded. With these interchangeable print nozzles, the amount of discarded material can supposedly be reduced by up to 90% and it further requires 50% less time.
According to the manufacturer AtomForm, printing with up to 36 colors is supported. However, this requires the use of six of the RDF-6 units, which house the individual filament spools. As usual, the spools in the RFD-6 units are not only stored but also dried. Additionally, the Palette 300 has a build volume of 300 x 300 x 300 millimeters, with a maximum print speed of 800 mm/s.
The manufacturer also states that the printing process is continuously monitored by four cameras and 50 sensors, while the print nozzle is calibrated accordingly during printing. As expected, this 3D printer also comes with a touchscreen, and the temperature inside the print chamber can be adjusted.
