Aaeon has introduced a new single-board computer called the Up Extreme ARL. This little device is somewhat comparable to the Raspberry Pi 5, but it’s significantly more powerful. Nonetheless, the GPIO pin header is almost the same as the Raspberry Pi, which means that expansion boards designed for the Raspberry Pi may be compatible with this SBC. Either way, the Up Extreme ARL is available with an Intel Core Ultra 5 225H, Core Ultra 7 255H or Ultra 7 265H. It sports an AI performance of up to 97 TOPS, which means that AI applications can be run locally.
The memory is soldered onto the board and cannot be expanded. Depending on the model variant, the Aaeon’s latest single-board computer sports up to 64GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Two M.2 2280 slots are available, and a conventional spinning hard drive or a 2.5-inch SSD can be connected via SATA. Furthermore, the board measures 4.74 x 4.82 inches and offers two HDMI 2.1 and one DisplayPort 2.1 connection for setups with multiple monitors. MIPI CSI is onboard as well.
Wired networks can be accessed via Ethernet and a bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps, but the second Ethernet port maxes out at 1 Gbps. Wireless network connectivity (WiFi or cellular) can be added to the Up Extreme ARL thanks to two M.2 slots in the M.2 3052 and 2230 format. Additionally, there are two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, and power can be supplied with a voltage between 9 and 36 volts. Unfortunately, Aaeon has not publicly revealed any pricing info for the powerful Raspberry Pi 5 rival.
