Hotwav is a rather familiar name in the market of rugged devices, and the company is now offering a new tablet called the R9 Plus. It's already listed on Amazon and can be pre-ordered for $329. This offer is from a marketplace seller, but Amazon will handle the shipping. The tablet is expected to arrive at customers starting June 23.
The Hotwav R9 Plus is a rugged tablet designed to withstand tough conditions, which is why it’s certified according to the IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H standards. This means it can survive temporary immersion in water without taking any damage. It also features a rather large dedicated light on the back, which can be useful for outdoor activities and camping as it can illuminate a tent, for instance. Moreover, Hotwav specifically mentions the Widevine L1 certification, which makes the R9 Plus suitable for streaming HD content from various services.
In terms of hardware, the rugged tablet is powered by the Unisoc T7280 SoC, which is not particularly powerful but combines two Cortex-A75 cores with six Cortex-A55 cores. This processor is paired with 8GB of RAM and a generous 512GB of internal storage, which should be plenty for storing lots of video files or music for offline playback. Additionally, the Hotwav R9 Plus has a gigantic 20,080mAh battery, which can also be used to charge other devices. Meanwhile, the 11-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, but with just 400 nits of brightness, it may not be ideal for use in direct sunlight. Last but not least, the outdoor tablet features a 64MP main camera and a 16MP selfie camera.
