The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 has arrived as a follow-up to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Even though the chip is designed to be a less expensive alternative to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the two processors differ drastically in terms of specifications. Whilst the 8 Elite is equipped with Qualcomm’s own Oryon cores, the 8s Gen 4 uses ARM’s reference cores in the following configuration:
- 1x ARM Cortex-X4 – 3.2 GHz
- 3x ARM Cortex-A720 – 3.0 GHz
- 2x ARM Cortex-A720 – 2.8 GHz
- 2x ARM Cortex-A720 – 2.0 GHz
According to Qualcomm, this configuration delivers a 31% boost in CPU performance compared to the previous generation. Furthermore, the new Adreno graphics chip is 49% faster, and AI performance has improved by 44%. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 supports Qualcomm’s latest gaming features, including Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0, which, similar to Nvidia DLSS, uses artificial intelligence to generate additional frames, effectively doubling a game’s frame rate.
The Spectra 18-bit triple image signal processor enables real-time skin tone correction and officially supports one 320 MP camera or up to three 36 MP cameras. It also allows for video recording at up to 4K 60 fps, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ available as options. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, 5G connectivity with download speeds up to 4.2 Gbit/s, and USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbit/s). Additionally, the 4 nm processor can be paired with LPDDR5x memory running at 4,800 MHz.
