Purported Google Pixel 6a retail box leak confirms design and hints at upcoming launch
The retail box for the Google Pixel 6a has turned up in a real-life image that shows how the device will look from the rear thanks to the packaging printing. The photo comes via Techxine, and of course it pays to take this particular leak with a pinch of salt for the time being. However, there is no denying that this could be the genuine article (see below), as the Pixel 6a design on the box looks like what is generally expected.
It's possible to make out the familiar Google logo followed by the Pixel 6a name and a good portion of the smartphone. The camera bar that made its first appearance with the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is naturally present, and it has been opined by another source that the phone could come with a glass back because of the reflectiveness shown in the image. However, it could be just glossy plastic too, as the Pixel 5a was also encased in plastic that surrounded its internal aluminum body.
The fact that such an image has appeared also seems to point to an imminent launch for the Pixel 6a. It has already been reported that Google might officially announce the smartphone at its I/O 2022 event that is taking place May 11-12. Both the Pixel 5a and Pixel 4a were launched in August, 2021 and 2020, respectively; but there could be an earlier launch planned for the Google Pixel 6a if this retail box leak is not fake.
