PreEvnt Isaac is slightly larger than an Apple AirTag and is designed to monitor blood sugar levels around the clock without the need for a needle. According to PreEvnt, this device is suitable for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as for prediabetes or for people who simply want to monitor their blood sugar levels.
Instead of measuring blood sugar visually through changes in the skin or underlying vessels, as Apple does, Isaac analyzes the user's breath to measure biomarkers such as acetone, which are often associated with rising blood sugar levels. The effectiveness and accuracy of PreEvnt Isaac in determining blood sugar levels is currently being tested in a clinical study at Indiana University Indianapolis.
The study includes patients with type 1 diabetes between the ages of 12 and 19, and the results are being compared with those from conventional continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). The study will later be expanded to include type 2 diabetes. Initial results are expected in the coming months. As usual, such gadgets should not be considered a reliable method of measuring blood sugar levels until accurate measurements have been proven in clinical trials.
If PreEvnt Isaac works as advertised by the manufacturer, the gadget could make blood sugar measurements more convenient. This is because each measurement is automatically synchronized with a smartphone app, allowing blood sugar levels to be conveniently monitored throughout the day. Isaac's battery is designed to last a full day and is charged via USB-C.
