Polar Unite: A budget fitness tracker and smartwatch with a simple and classic look
Polar has released a new smartwatch and fitness tracker, the Unite. The device measures 43.4 x 43.4 x 10.4 mm and houses a colour IPS touchscreen that resolves at 240 x 204 pixels. The 32 g has an Asahi glass lens protecting the display and a 174 mAh Li-pol battery that Polar claims will last up to 4 days in watch mode with heart rate tracking activated. Alternatively, the Polar Unite will last up to 50 hours in training mode, which Polar defines as the heart rate sensor and GPS module being activated.
The Unite also supports Bluetooth Low Energy and is water-resistant up to 30 m. Specifically, the smartwatch has been certified as ISO 22810, which means that it is good to wear when swimming. The Unite supports over 100 activity modes too, and can set adaptive training programs. Sadly, it only supports connected GPS, which means that your paired smartphone provides a GPS connection. The Unite does not have an integrated GPS module itself.
The Polar Unite is also compatible with Polar Flow, which combines an app and web service. This allows you to store and upload information like your activity, training and sleep data. Additionally, it allows the smartwatch to communicate with your smartphone.
The Unite is available in Black, Blue, Pink and White. The smartwatch retails for US$149.95, £134.50 or €149.90 in the Eurozone.
